Help Isher Mondal Secure a Stable Future: A Call for Support
Story
I currently live in a small 1BHK apartment with a friend, where we struggle to manage the 7,500 INR monthly rent. Despite our efforts, I’m now facing a dire situation because my parents have completely cut off all financial support. This happened after I had to repeat a year due to some challenges and, despite my best efforts, couldn’t secure a PhD application before graduating. Their disappointment in me soon turned into relentless emotional and verbal abuse, leaving me with no choice but to cut ties with them for the sake of my mental health. They even went so far as to come to my university, trying to drag me out of my hostel, and sent defamatory emails to my professors and university officials, shattering my reputation.
My circumstances are made even more painful by a long history of physical and verbal abuse from my father, something I’ve endured since childhood. Growing up, I also had to witness constant domestic abuse, which has left deep scars on my mental well-being. The one person I hoped would stand by me—my mother—has turned away, influenced by my father’s manipulation.
Right now, I have just 10,000 INR in savings, which barely covers my rent and food for this month. I’ve been relentlessly job hunting but haven’t had any luck. I’ve almost secured a couple of tutoring jobs, but they pay very little—about 3,000 INR per month for a few hours a week. Every other job lead has turned out to be a scam.
To make matters worse, I’m suffering from severe depression, anxiety, and PTSD. I was in therapy and on medication, but now I can’t afford either due to my financial crisis. My mental health is deteriorating rapidly, and it’s making it even harder to focus on finding work and applying for PhD programs.
I am in dire need of financial assistance to cover my rent and food so I can stabilize my situation. With a secure living arrangement and some peace of mind, I can focus on my PhD applications and hopefully secure a position that will allow me to apply for a student loan. Until then, I’m ineligible for any financial aid or loans because I’m not currently associated with any university.
